By the Numbers: New Poll Says Capitalism and Christianity Are Incompatible

A new PRRI/RNS Religion News Survey shows that more Americans believe that Christian values are at odds with capitalism and the free market than believe they are compatible (44% vs. 36% respectively). Big exception? Self-described Tea Party-ites. 

We’d like to open this up for discussion. 

Where the rubber hits the road for most of us is with regard to taxes. So, given that 58% of Republicans and 75% of Democrats (along with strong majorities of all religious groups except white evangelical Protestants, who are evenly split) agree that it’s fair for wealthier Americans to pay more taxes than the middle class or those less well off, why is neither party willing to shift the tax burden to the wealthy?
