Homophobic Viral Video of Four-Year-Old From Same Town as Teen Suicide

The latest YouTube phenom is a young boy who looks to be about 4 years old, singing in front of a church. The congregation stands and cheers when he delivers the line, “Ain’t no homo gonna make it to heaven.” Amid the whooping applause a voice can be heard hollering proudly, “That’s my boy!”

Several bloggers have identified the church as the Apostolic Truth Tabernacle in Greensburg, Indiana. That’s the town of less than 12,000 where Billy Lucas lived and was bullied at school before committing suicide in September 2010, the same month that writer and activist Dan Savage launched the “It Gets Better” video project to prevent young gay people from killing themselves.

Here’s an excerpt from Savage’s response to the video:

I wonder if they stood up and cheered at Apostolic Truth Tabernacle when Lucas died—hey, another homo in hell. I wonder if any of Lucas’s tormenters attend services at Apostolic Truth Tabernacle…. And what if that precocious little four-year-old singer is gay?

Praise the Lord and pass the barf bags.
