charity
Charity, in the contemporary sense, means assistance to the needy. The word is from the Latin caritas, for affection.
In the Vulgate, (Latin translation of the Bible from Greek) caritas was used as a translation of agape, love —but love of humankind, not romantic love. (Greek and Latin have separate words for each; Latin has at least three words for the one English word: dilectio, amor and caritas.)
While early translations of the Bible into English made a distinction between love and charity, by the 19th century the word "love" is the standard.
