In Buddhism, the Pali word dukkha refers to the suffering that isthought to be a basic condition of worldly existence. As such itencompasses physical suffering and death, along with mental unease.Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, placed dukkha at the center ofhis preaching. His Four Noble Truths revolve directly around it:postulating the ubiquity of dukkha, its origin, the goal of escapingit, and the means for doing so.
