catechesis
The word 'catechesis' comes from the Greek katechesis, meaning oral instruction, usually by means of question and answer. In the Christian scriptures, the word occurs in Paul, for instance as "I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may instruct [katecheso] others also" (1 Corinthians 14:19). In ecclesiastical use, it refers to religious instruction, preparation for initiation into Christianity.
