Dionysus
May 20, 2008.

Dionysus is a Greek god (also known by his Roman name, Bacchus), patron of the theater, of wine, and of agriculture. Myths of his birth vary, but in one of the more common versions he is the son of Zeus, king of the gods, and of Semele, a mortal woman. Dionysus is also associated with what are known as "mystery religions," ancient cults devoted to esoteric secrets and ecstatic practices.
