Dispensationalism
June 15, 2008.

A Christian theological belief in a series of epochs, biblically-based, and ranging from Paradise through to the Millennium, in which God reveals truth in a progressive way to humankind (not progressive as in left-wing, but as in progress toward something—in this case, the greatly anticipated Apocalypse.) The formalization of this system is usually attributed to 19th century minister John Nelson Darby, but has developed along diverse pathways since its introduction.

Dispensationalism is the basis for so-called Christian Zionism, as the return of Jews to Israel is a key to the end-time prophecy.
