theocracy
Theocracy is government by God, or, more commonly, by someone with connections.
Some people prefer the term 'ecclesiocracy' to refer to a government by a priestly class, saving the word 'theocracy' for rule by an individual with either godlike qualities (think the Pharaohs) or a direct line to the divine (think of Moses, or Muhammad, or George Bush).
