Christian-Only Prayer Rally The Response Goes To Early Primary States

Via Wayne Slater on Twitter, The Response, the massive prayer event hosted by Gov. Rick Perry and the American Family Association, is fanning out into early primary states starting in Iowa in December.

There’s no apparent Perry connection made on the website for the state Responses, but it’s hard to imagine how a rally in Cedar Rapids in December, ones in South Carolina and Florida in January don’t have some connection to the primary process.

According to the website, the purpose of the rallies is “to call on Jesus on behalf of America, that He might hear our cry and that we would see a revolution of righteousness in this country.”

The website states, “we will not rest until we see a righteous revolution awaken the church.” And, apparently, the presidential campaign.

For some idea of what this means, see my account of Perry’s August event. The main themes:   purity and obedience to Jesus.

The mailing list from the August Response is being used by the AFA to send voters information about Champion the Vote, a project of the non-profit group United in Purpose, which, according to the L.A. Times, “is using sophisticated data-mining techniques to compile a database of every unregistered born-again and evangelical Christian and conservative Catholic in the country.” United in Purpose shares the services of David Lane with the Renewal and Restoration Projects, which are modeled on one launched in Texas to help Perry with a gubernatorial reelection campaign. As I reported previously, Lane, a Christian nation absolutist who was also instrumental in organizing The Response, has long supported Perry’s political career.
